Ground Investigation and Instrumentation Group (GIG)

The Ground Investigation and Instrumentation Group (GIG) has a long-standing history within the Association. Initially focused on ground investigation, the group has progressively expanded its scope to include instrumentation, reflecting the evolving needs and practices of the industry. The objectives of the GIG are as follows:

• Knowledge Sharing and Best Practices

To publish the Technical Note Series, which disseminates knowledge, techniques, and practical guidelines in the fields of ground investigation and instrumentation. These publications also address key aspects, including planning, procurement, contract documentation, and design.

• Professional Development and Engagement

To organize forums, CPD seminars, and other events that facilitate the exchange of information and experiences, while promoting best practices in ground investigation and instrumentation.

• Innovation and Continuous Learning

To stay informed of emerging technologies and evolving practices, ensuring that members remain at the forefront of industry developments.

• Regulatory Awareness and Advocacy

To monitor relevant regulations enacted by the Government of the HKSAR and guidelines issued by various governmental departments. The group will provide feedback and comments to the authorities when necessary.

• Collaboration and Ethical Practice

To maintain close collaboration with professional bodies such as HKIE, IOM3, the Geological Society of Hong Kong, the Regional Group of the Geological Society of London, the Site Investigation Committee of HKCA, and other relevant organizations. These partnerships aim to uphold and promote ethical, professional, and socially responsible practices.
