About
Synopsis
High compressibility and very low permeability are intrinsic properties of soft soils. Due to low permeability, soft soils develop high pore water pressure when subjected to loading. An increase in pore water pressure results in a reduction of effective shear strength and load bearing capacity. Hence, construction over soft soils generally entails strengthening measures combined with good drainage. This presentation will discuss various geotechnical settings like embankments over soft soils, piled embankments and load transfer platforms in which geotechnical stability of embankments on soft foundation soil can be improved through the use of high strength geogrid (ArmaLynk®) and multi-linear drainage composite (Draintube™).
