Highlights
The technical visit will take place at Contract No. GE/2021/22, Landslip Prevention and Mitigation Programme (2017), Package H, focusing on landslip prevention and mitigation works at Wah King Hill Road. The primary scope of the project includes the installation of soil nails as part of the slope stabilization measures.
This visit offers participants a unique opportunity to gain firsthand insight into the ongoing works and observe the techniques and processes up close.
Safety Requirements
Participants should prepare their own safety gears (including safety shoe, reflective jacket and safety helmet) and hold a valid safety Green Card.
Registration
The number of participants is strictly limited. Priority will be given to members of the AGS (HK). The number of attendees will be limited to 25 and the applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Successful applicants will be informed about 1 week before the event. CPD certificates will be provided. If you have any queries, please call Martin Yip at 6012 0019.
Book Prize
Professionals under 35 years of age are encouraged to submit a Book Prize Report (max. 500 words) on webinars and site visits arranged by AGS (HK).
Contributors to successful Book Prize Reports will be awarded a Book Prize that comprises of a book "Geology of Site Investigation Boreholes in Hong Kong" written by Chris Fletcher, and a coupon of HK$500 for Eslite Spectrum (誠品生活). The successful Book Prize Report will also be published on the AGS (HK) website to showcase your accomplishment.
Prior to report submission, please refer to the “The AGS Book Prize Reports – Assessment Framework”* on the AGS (HK) website. RECAP OF THE DAY
On August 9, 2025, AGS organized a technical site visit to Contract No. GE/2021/22 Landslip Prevention and Mitigation Programme (2017) Package H. The event was organized with support from the Civil Engineering Development Department (CEDD) and ARUP. The site, located at Wah King Hill Road in Kwai Chung, is a key part of Hong Kong’s strategic initiative to systematically address landslide risks associated with both man-made slopes and natural hillside. This specific project highlights the design and installation of soil nails as a key component of landslip prevention and slope stabilization measures.
The visit began with an introduction presented by engineers from ARUP, who provided an overview of the project. Their presentation covered the site’s existing geological conditions, the stability assessments conducted for both pre- and post-improvement scenario, the construction methodologies employed, and safety measures implemented. Participants gained valuable insights into critical aspects of the project, including the design and installation of soil nails, soil nail testing procedure, current site operations, and the design and requirements in constructing working platforms.
Following the presentation, participants had the opportunity to engaging in a Q&A session explore the project’s methodologies. This was followed by a guided site tour, where attendees observed the ongoing construction processes and gained firsthand exposure to the practical implementation of slope stabilization techniques.
Overall, the site visit was successful, offering the participants invaluable insights into the intricate processes of landslip prevention and slope stabilization. The insights gained are expected to deepen their understanding of slope stabilization practices and enhance their professional expertise in the field.
