Recap of the Day
On October 26, 2024, AGS organized a technical site visit to the Yuen Long Barrage, with support from the Drainage Services Department, Binnies Hong Kong Limited, and China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd. This project marks Hong Kong's first large-scale barrage initiative and features the largest stormwater pumping station in Asia.
Participants gained insights into the necessity of the barrage system for protecting the Yuen Long area from flooding during heavy rainfall seasons. The project plans include the construction of a stormwater pumping capacity of 300 m³ per section upon completion, an automatic flood barrier, a stormwater pumping station, a master control center, and associated electrical and mechanical facilities in the Yuen Long Nullah, as well as modifications to the Nullah and drainage improvement works.
The hosts also discussed the foundation work for the pumping station and master control system, emphasizing the use of socket H piles. They elaborated on the design of socket H piles for tension anchoring and detailed the construction work carried out on-site.
Overall, the visit provided participants with valuable insights into the barrage system and its critical importance.
