The Relocation of Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works to Caverns project stands as the largest cavern initiative in Hong Kong. Launched by the Drainage Services Department in 2014, this groundbreaking undertaking aims to relocate the aging Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works into underground caverns by 2031. Upon completion, an impressive 28 hectares of land will be reclaimed, paving the way for diverse and meaningful uses while addressing longstanding challenges related to landscape, odor, and outdated facilities at the current site.
This visit will take place at the Community Liaison Centre, offering participants valuable insights into the innovative solutions employed in relocating sewage treatment facilities into caverns.
